Cytion is an independent cell bank. Since 2004, our mission has been to provide authenticated and contamination-free human and animal cell lines under strictly controlled laboratory conditions.

We have been active for more than 20 years, continuously expand our portfolio and services, and today supply customers worldwide. Our headquarter is in Heidelberg, Germany. Cytion LLC in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA brings Cytion expertise to our American customers.

Founded
Dr. Rosemarie Steubing establishes Cell Lines Service in Heidelberg, Germany, with a clear mission: authenticated and contamination-free human and animal cell lines under strictly controlled laboratory conditions.

Catalog Expansion
The portfolio grows to more than 400 authenticated cell lines for research.
2023
Rebranding
On 23 November 2023, Cell Lines Service becomes Cytion, reflecting expanded capabilities and a forward-looking commitment to the scientific community. Catalog numbers from the CLS era remain valid.

US Market Entry
Cytion LLC is founded in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. It handles orders, MTAs and customer support across North America, as reported by South Dakota Biotech.

On 1 August 2025, Cytion moves its headquarter, laboratory and production from Eppelheim to LAB22 in the Technologiepark Heidelberg.

Primary Cells and Media Launch
Cytion takes over the primary cell offering of provitro AG and begins to isolate primary cells. Together with matching media, they are made available to customers worldwide.
